Peter Turnley is excited to announce a once in a lifetime opportunity that many photographers based in the United States have long been waiting for – The Streets of Havana Workshop – which will be the opportunity to visit and photograph the daily life of Havana, Cuba. Peter Turnley well lead and teach two upcoming workshops, Jan. 4-10 and Feb. 22-28. The workshop will likely draw great interest by potential students, and each will be limited to 12 students. If you are interested, you will want to register as soon as possible to reserve a spot for this exciting unique photographic experience.

This workshop, led by one of the world’s most renowned photojournalists, who has made 4 previous trips to Cuba, is a unique opportunity for photographers to visit Havana, Cuba and engage in people-to-people experiences with the Cuban people. This will be an opportunity to make a portfolio of photographs of this amazingly human, vibrant, and passionate people and culture. This educational exchange offers participants the chance to be a part of the amazing spirit and passion for living the Cuban people have to offer.

This program, led by photojournalist Peter Turnley, is organized and operated exclusively by Cuba Cultural Travel, which was is licensed by the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control to engage in the travel-related and other transactions incidental to its travel program and to authorize United States persons to travel on those programs under Cuba Cultural Travel’s auspices. Photographers will have the opportunity daily to explore and photograph the neighborhoods of Havana and engage in person-to-person activities with Cubans and their everyday life. The workshop will include daily presentations and lectures by Peter Turnley and others, and the photographers will be offered a rich schedule of visits to fascinating aspects of Cuban life related to education, arts and culture, photography, music, dance, and food. This workshop will offer a very exciting mix of activities and group shooting opportunities, as well as the possibility for the photographers to make their own personal explorations. The workshop will visit many of the fascinating Havana neighborhoods, markets, witness great dance and hear great music, visit a boxing gym, one of the Caribbean’s most amazing cemeteries, churches, schools, and much more. During the week, Peter Turnley and the students will be assisted by English-speaking Cubans who live in Havana and will help as local guides and translators for the workshop.There will be daily group edit sessions of the students’ work and the workshop will finish with a final show with each student presenting a 15 image photo-essay/portfolio of their week’s work to be edited with Peter Turnley.

Photographers joining this workshop will leave from Miami, Florida as a group on a charter flight from Miami to Havana, on January 4, 2012, or Feb 22, 2012 and stay for six nights and seven days. The group will return to Miami on January 10th, or February 28th. The group will stay at a 5 star hotel in the center of Havana, the Hotel Parque Central.

The price of the workshop includes tuition, roundtrip airfare from Miami to Havana, single accommodations for six nights in Havana, breakfast daily plus two group dinners, two group lunches, one evening of entertainment, airport transfers, all visas and licenses, and workshop tuition. A $45 application fee will also be charged. Airfare to Miami and hotel accommodations in Miami are not included.

Cuban Authorities have mandated that all tourists entering Cuba carry health insurance and emergency evacuation coverage. This coverage is included as part of your airfare through the charter company. This coverage will pay your medical expenses up to 25,000 CUC and pay up to 7,000 CUC for repatriation or transportation. Eligibility is up to 80 years old.

You may choose to purchase additional coverage through a U.S. insurance provider – especially travel cancellation insurance or for travelers over the age of 80

Any optional event that requires an admission fee. Such as museums, night clubs, a baseball game, etc. • Meals and beverages - except breakfast at the hotel and the two group dinners. • Individual guides and translators • Individual transportation within Cuba for optional activities. • All expenses of a personal nature such as room service, phone, mini-bar, laundry, internet access, etc. • Airport Taxes upon departing Havana, CUC 25 (USD 30.00). • Tips for drivers, guides, hotel staff, restaurants, etc. • Travel/cancellation insurance. • Any excess baggage charges. • Cost of obtaining a passport. • Any additional cost(s) not included in the itinerary.

If students want to bring along a companion and share a double occupancy room with them, the package cost for the companion will be $2,600.

You will then receive instructions how to proceed to register and make payment. Registration and payment will be handled by Cuba Cultural Travel . Registrations are accepted on a first-come first-serve basis and your spot is held only once a payment has been received. Please be advised, for travel to Cuba, your passport must be valid up to at least 6 months AFTER the dates of travel.

Note: Students will be required to make their own travel arrangements for arriving to and from Miami.

The workshop group will meet early in the morning of Jan. 4th, or Feb. 22nd in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Miami International Airport. The workshop has negotiated very reasonable group rates at this hotel for anyone wanting to spend the night of Jan. 3rd, or Feb. 22nd there, which is highly recommended. Everyone staying there the night before on Jan. 3rd, or Feb. 22nd will meet for an introductory meeting at 8pm. The return flight from Havana to Miami on Jan. 10th, or Feb. 28th will arrive back in Miami at the end of the day. Students needing to spend the night in Miami on the return, before heading back to their homes, will be welcome to book as well a room at the Crowne Plaza Miami Internatinal Airport and benefit also from our reduced group rate.
